Squirrel Tree Frog

The United States Post Office issued four frog stamps in 2019, featuring the squirrel tree frog, northern leopard frog, American green tree frog, and Pacific chorus frog (formerly known as Pacific tree frog).

Frogs, existing for millions of years, trace their evolutionary roots to the Early Triassic Period, as seen in the oldest frog fossil, named Triadobatrachus.

Recognized as “indicator species,” frogs signal a healthy environment when abundant. Scientists attribute their vulnerability to ecosystem health due to their skin-breathing nature and the dual exposure during aquatic and terrestrial life stages.

Frogs play a vital role in pest control by managing insect populations. Moreover, they contribute to scientific research and medical advancements. Dart frogs’ toxins and enzymes from northern leopard frogs, when studied, hold potential to revolutionize treatments for severe diseases.
